UFC fighter Derrick Lewis is doing his best to help Houston natives affected by Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey has taken a devastating toll on southeast Texas, but Houston native and UFC light heavyweight Derrick Lewis isn't letting the horrific events stop him from aiding those in need.

On Monday, the UFC fighter shared a video that showed him helping fellow Houston residents escape the flooding.

Lewis also tweeted a short video showing that his kids are safe.

"My family is good, my neighborhood is dry, I mean, it's raining but there is no flood or anything like that," Lewis told MMAFighting.com. "But outside of my neighborhood, everyone is going through a tough time, right now, I'm waiting for an elderly couple to get on the back of my truck as we speak."

"I've seen just about everything, everyone out here is just trying to get somewhere that's safe and dry," Lewis added.

Athletes far and wide have sent words of support and love to Houston throughout the weekend. Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander has pledged to donate $4 million to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The Houston Astros ownership group has also agreed to donate $4 million to hurricane relief efforts.

Houston Texans All-Pro J.J. Watt has already raised over $1 million to aid hurricane victims.
