Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken said the goal for the offense on third down is "right around 45 percent because that'll put you in the top-five in the league."

Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken is very pleased with how calm Jameis Winston was in the pocket against the Bears and the fact that he didn't turn the ball over. He was particularly pleased with that two-minute drive he led before halftime.

Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken said they have to do a better job finishing in the red zone. They also have to improve on the deep balls. That also falls on protection to allow those deep throws to happen.

Today's Bucs-Vikings injury reports. Head coach Dirk Koetter acknowledged that his team is battling a little bit of a flu bug.

Stat change: The NFL has credited defensive end Robert Ayers with two quarterback hurries vs. the Bears. He was previously credited with 1.

Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is not practicing today. He was limping when I saw him leave the locker room Sunday and he had his right ankle taped. The same for Monday. On a separate note, linebacker Devante Bond has returned to practice since suffering a sprained PCL in his knee last month.

Bucs running back Jacquizz Rodgers is practicing today despite his wife tweeting out that he had the flu against the Bears. The tweet has since been deleted. Interestingly, he told me just a little while ago that he has a cough and that it's not the flu. He looked fine out there today in drills and you can see he's in good spirits.

Bucs middle linebacker Kwon Alexander is not practicing today. He suffered a hamstring injury Sunday against the Chicago Bears and had to leave the game. Mike Smith was very pleased with rookie Kendell Beckwith stepping in for him and said he was even making the calls on defense towards the end of the game.

"He looks much quicker and more decisive," Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith said of Lavonte David. He also said he thought David finished off the year with more splash plays than anybody despite fighting through some nagging injuries and believes he's picking up right where he left off.

"Anytime you play that first game, it's gonna stun your body," said Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith. "No matter if it's your first year or your tenth year." Players are still getting into condition after the layoff they had with Hurricane Irma. A rotation at certain positions has helped combat it.

Bucs running back Jacquizz Rodgers started Sunday's game against the Bears battling the flu. His wife Samantha Rodgers tweeted out that he's had it since Friday. She's since deleted the tweet. Rodgers rushed for 67 yards on 19 carries (3.5 avg) with a touchdown.

Power Rankings: Bucs inch toward top 10

After a convincing win in Chicago, Tampa Bay moved up two spots on our list, now ranking ahead of 2-0 division rival Carolina.

The Bucs have signed cornerback David Rivers to the practice squad. To make room for him, they have released Jonathan Moxey.

Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter said the plan all week was to have Kevin Pamphile and Evan Smith split reps at left guard because Smith had been sick earlier in the week and Pamphile had been out for a while with a minor injury. There were concerns how both players would handle a full game's worth of reps. Koetter thought they both played well enough in camp to start so he just decided to split those reps in half. At some point, he would like to have five guys there but there's a lot that can happen at that position.

Bucs defensive end Jacquies Smith told me his knee feels 100 percent. He wasn't even on the injury report last week. He looks fit, but said he is still getting into football shape from a conditioning standpoint. I asked if we might see him this week in Minnesota and he said, "Maybe. We'll see." He was inactive against the Bears Sunday.

Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on kneeling for a long time mid-field after warmups: "I was just thankful. I just told God thank you. There's a lot of stuff that has led up to this moment. A lot of people that still don't have power. Not just Tampa, but the whole state of Florida was affected by the hurricane. I was just thanking God."

Both linebackers Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David left Sunday's game with injuries. David said it's cramping and he should be fine, and Alexander is dealing with a hamstring issue. That's a concern with Dalvin Cook -- the league's second-leading rusher -- on deck next week. The Bucs do have a lot of depth at linebacker though, with Adarius Glanton and Kendell Beckwith both looking strong filling in.
