After each exceeded expectations yesterday, the Rams and Cowboys improved their respective FPI ratings more than any other team this week (so far). On the other side of the coin, the Cardinals' rating dropped a massive 4.2 points, while the Colts and 49ers fell a good bit, too.

49ers S Eric Reid played linebacker in Sunday's game. It's the first time he's played there though the Niners indicated a desire to get him and fellow safeties Jaquiski Tartt and Jimmie Ward on the field together more. Reid on the move: "They told me that it's the best move for the team so I'm just embracing my new role and trying my hardest to be an impact (player)," Reid said. "I'm still playing so I'm just trying to make an impact on the team, do the best I can to do that."

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan kept LB Reuben Foster from returning to the game after he aggravated a rib injury in the second half even though Foster was cleared to come back. Shanahan indicated Foster would probably be OK for next week but Foster and the Niners still needed to see how Foster would feel tomorrow. Foster indicated he will have more scans and treatment on Monday and see what the medical staff says over the next few days.

Elliott's 3 TDs, 219 yards lead Cowboys past 49ers 40-10

Ezekiel Elliott gained 219 yards from scrimmage and tied a career high with three touchdowns just days after a legal reprieve put his suspension on hold and the Dallas Cowboys beat the winless San Francisco 49ers 40-10 on Sunday.

Hope is a relative term for the 49ers right now, especially after a string of close losses turned into a blowout defeat Sunday. But if there's a silver lining in their 0-7 start, it's this: they remain in contention for the top pick in the 2018 NFL draft and are poised to have more than $90 million in cap space in the offseason. This team has been close to wins on multiple occasions but still lacks difference makers. Those have to come in the offseason.

The streak of five straight close losses for the 49ers came to an end Sunday... but not with a victory. Instead, San Francisco was on the wrong end of a blowout loss to Dallas. It's the first time since Week 1 that the Niners weren't really competitive and there was very little in the way of positives to take away from this one. At 0-7, the Niners are still three games away from a much-needed bye week though they're still in the thick of a heated battle with Cleveland for the first pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

49ers LB Reuben Foster has a rib injury. His return is questionable, though with the Niners trailing by 30, there's not much reason to put him back in and risk something serious.

49ers OT Trent Brown is being examined for a head injury. His return is questionable. Garry Gilliam in at right tackle for Brown.

49ers LB Reuben Foster only missed one play before returning to the game. Appeared to just have the wind knocked out of him.

49ers LB Reuben Foster, who just returned from a high ankle sprain, got some medical attention on the field with about 7 minutes to go. He was able to walk off with no issues and appeared to be holding his side. He still has his helmet on and looks like he's prepared to return.

Dwight Clark said the 49ers asked him how he'd like to be honored, whether he wanted a charity drive or an event or something else. Clark: "When Keena Turner asked me what I wanted to do, whether raise money or have some kind of function, I said I just want to see my teammates and the 49ers heard that and flew all these players in so I could see them one more time."

49ers legend Dwight Clark was able to address the crowd from a suite at Levi's Stadium as he was honored at halftime of today's game: "Hello my 49ers faithful," Clark began. "I want to thank you for all your support. I think you all know I am going through a little thing right now and I need your prayers and thoughts and I appreciate those."

The 49ers are honoring franchise legend Dwight Clark now. One very cool tidbit: the great Vin Scully narrated the video tribute.

The Niners looked poised to get back into this one before DeMarcus Lawrence beat LT Joe Staley for a sack and forced C.J. Beathard to fumble deep in Dallas territory. The Cowboys got the ball back to secure a 17-point halftime lead. The 49ers have made a habit of forging comebacks this year but will need to get out of their own way in the second half if they're going to make this one close.

49ers CB Rashard Robinson headed to locker room after landing on Dez Bryant's knees. Robinson has battled some form of injury in basically every game this season. Ahkello Witherspoon replaced him.

The 49ers continue to sleepwalk through the early parts of games. Already down two touchdowns to Dallas, San Francisco is now minus-38 in first quarter scoring. That's second-worst in the NFL.

Second TD run of the first quarter for Ezekiel Elliott. Just an inside dive scheme. And then speed through the middle of the field for the Cowboys RB.

The 49ers defense got off to a strong start in forcing a three and out keyed by two pass deflections from DT DeForest Buckner. But the goodwill created by that stop quickly dissipated as PR Trent Taylor coughed up the ensuing fumble at the Niners' 20. San Francisco has made a habit of slow starts this season and the early turnover isn't a good sign for that to change.
