From ESPN Stats & Information: This is the first game in NFL history to end 43-40. The 83 combined points are 3 points shy of the most combined points in a Patriots home game all-time. The most was 86 in a 43-43 tie between the Boston Patriots and Oakland Raiders in 1964 and tied in 2013 when the Patriots won 55-31 over the Steelers.

Sony Michel is the first Patriots running back with 18-plus carries in three straight games since LeGarrette Blount in 2016 (two such streaks that year). Before that, Stevan Ridley (2012) was the last. It's pretty clear Michel is going to get the usage required for RB1 numbers.

Patriots 43, Chiefs 40 (final): It wasn't the decisive 60-minute performance they wanted, but these are the types of games that can build championship mettle. Mental toughness shown by Patriots as they almost blow big lead, before making big plays down the stretch.

The Chiefs made a mistake kicking the XP following their TD at the end of the 3rd quarter. They now trail by 1 with 10 minutes to play. According to ESPN's Win Probability (WP) model, the Chiefs needed just a 26% chance of conversion to make the two-point attempt worthwhile. League average is just under 50%. Overall it was a -2.0% WP error.

Starting right tackle Marcus Cannon left the game in the third quarter, and the club announced that he has a head injury. The club later announced he would not return. LaAdrian Waddle stepped in at right tackle in Cannon's absence.

A surprisingly poor decision by Tom Brady —in which he attempted to keep a play alive by circling around as defenders swarmed him — led to a strip sack in the third quarter that the Chiefs quickly turned into a touchdown. Brady often talks about knowing when the journey is over, and in that case, living for the next play (punt) to avoid danger was the way to go. He'll be kicking himself for that one.
