Barnwell Show: Sando talks Week 2, including Mahomes & Rodgers

Bill and Mike Sando discuss the dynamic start to Patrick Mahomes' season (1:54), the tie between Minnesota-Green Bay as well as Aaron Rodgers' play in it (12:55), Dan Bailey heading to the Vikings (22:24), the Jaguars beating the Patriots (29:32) and which division leaders are showing the most promise (39:08). Plus, will the Earl Thomas situation get resolved soon (59:44)?

Minnesota used 2 sixth round draft picks to trade up into the 5th round to draft Daniel Carlson. Does Zimmer wish he had those picks back? "Nah, that's water off a duck's back. We'll get some more sixth rounders next year, I'm not worried about that. Plus we got three undrafted free agents on the roster, too, so it's probably better than having those six rounders."

Vikings kicker cites lack of confidence for miss

Kicker Daniel Carlson says his third miss of Sunday's tie, which would have given the Vikings a win over the Packers, "was probably more just confidence after missing twice early. That's frustrating. That shorter one I should never miss."

Matthews: Roughing passer flags 'out of control'

Matthews was flagged for a hit on Kirk Cousins, whose deep throw was picked off by rookie Jaire Alexander -- a play that would have given Aaron Rodgers the ball back with 1:37 left and a 29-21 lead.

Mike Zimmer on whether he has a decision to make at kicker: "It's too early. Rick (Spielman) and I will sit down tomorrow and we'll talk about it. My job is to evaluate everything that happened today whether it was the running game, the defense or the passing game or the kicking game. We're going to evaluate all of it. "

Daniel Carlson on whether he's worried about his job security: "Obviously this is my first time in this situation so I don't know. It is what it is. I sure hope not. I want to be able to prove to my teammates and these guys here that I can help them. We have a long season ahead and hopefully lots of big wins and big kicks hopefully in my future."

Daniel Carlson addresses his three missed field goals: "It feels terrible. I let my team down. Credit to them because they fought back time and time again. They gave me opportunities. It is disappointing for me personally. The team fought so hard. We expect to win that and I expect to make those kicks to win the game for the team. That last one was probably more just confidence after missing twice early. That's frustrating. That shorter one I should never miss like that."

Carlson misses 2 FGs in OT, Vikings and Packers tie

Daniel Carlson missed two field goals in overtime, including one from 35 yards as time expired, and the Minnesota Vikings had to settle for a 29-29 tie with the Green Bay Packers after rallying from a late 13-point deficit on Sunday.

One sign of how effective Green Bay's offensive line has been blocking for an injured Rodgers/how much the Vikings pass rush has struggled today: Rodgers' average time to throw today is 2.83 seconds according to NFL Next Gen Stats. He averaged 2.96 seconds in Week 1.

The interior D-Line pressure that pushed the pocket and allowed Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter to wreck havoc in Week 1 hasn't been able to generate much against Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay's offensive line has allowed Rodgers ample time to make plays from the pocket, and a big, bulky knee brace doesn't appear to be inhibiting Rodgers from scrambling. Special teams blunders for Minnesota cost the Vikings 10 points in the first half.

After an early blocked punt, Mike Hughes made up for the special teams blunder with a 46 yard kickoff return that set up the Vikings to go 57 yards in eight plays resulting in a 14-yard touchdown reception for Laquon Treadwell.

Vikings elect to go with all 11 active in the secondary (6 corners, 5 safeties) while making DE Tashawn Bower inactive. The Packers like to run quite a bit of hurry-up offense which could inhibit the Vikings from getting as much of a rotation going today on the defensive line. Might be a factor in why the second-year edge rusher is inactive after playing last week against San Francisco and throughout the preseason.

Vikings inactives: QB Kyle Sloter, RB Roc Thomas, RB Mike Boone, C Pat Elflein, G Bryan Witzmann, DE Tashawn Bower, DT Jalyn Holmes.

The Minnesota Vikings opened as 2.5-point favorites over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday morning at the Westgate SuperBook, after it was reported that Aaron Rodgers is expected to play. The line on the game had remained off the board throughout the week at most sportsbooks with Rodgers' status in question.
