The Chiefs, who are down a starting guard and center because of injuries, signed veteran offensive lineman Jeff Allen. Allen played from the Chiefs from 2012 through 2015, when he started 36 games, mostly at guard. Allen, who played the past two seasons for the Houston Texans, can also play tackle. Starting guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif is on the injured reserve lost with ankle and leg injuries. Center Mitch Morse has a concussion.

Chiefs LB Breeland Speaks, who let Tom Brady out of a fourth-quarter sack on Brady's eventual TD run, said he set Brady free because he thought the ball was gone and didn't want to risk a penalty. “We're in New England,'' Speaks said. “Tom Brady's going to get the call. We were already down there. I didn't want to put us on the inch-yard line.''

Mahomes unfazed in first loss as starter

Patrick Mahomes rallied the Chiefs to a brief comeback lead in the fourth quarter, but Kansas City lost its first game with Mahomes starting under center on Sunday at New England.
