RB Freeman played through PCL, MCL sprains

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman told ESPN he played the end of the season with sprained posterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee but refused to use the injuries as an excuse for his ineffectiveness in Saturday's loss to the Eagles.

Jones on 4th-and-goal play: 'I can make those'

Falcons receiver Julio Jones didn't make any excuses for slipping and failing to come up with what would have been a winning touchdown reception in the final moments of Saturday's playoff loss to the Eagles.

Falcons RB Devonta Freeman played the end of the season with MCL and PCL sprains in his right knee. ``I hope I don't have to,'' Freeman said of the possibility of having offseason surgery. Freeman emphasized that the injuries had nothing to do with his play and that he's not using it as an excuse. Freeman finished with 7 rushing yards on 10 carries against the Eagles and had a 6-yard touchdown reception from Matt Ryan.

Matt Ryan went 1-of-18 (6%) on passes to Julio Jones in the end zone this season, according to ESPN Stats and Information.

Julio Jones on the last play vs. Eagles: ``It was just a sprintout, a rollout to me. Tried to take advantage of one-on-one out there. ... At the end of the day, I can make those plays. I ended up on the ground when I came out of my route. And that's a tough call [for the official] to make during that situation in the game.''

"We had chances to make plays and we didn't make them." Matt Ryan said.

Dan Quinn said 100 out of 100 times he wants the ball in Matt Ryan and Julio Jones' hands with the game on the line. Just didn't work tonight.

Eagles use goal-line stand, Elliott FGs to beat Falcons

Philadelphia's defense staged a last-minute goal-line stand and Jake Elliott atoned for a missed extra point with three field goals as the Eagles beat the Atlanta Falcons 15-10 Saturday to move into the NFC Championship Game.

Eagles CB Ronald Darby played big in that final red zone series. Darby took away the fade route to Julio Jones. And then he drove on the slant route to Jones. Even with the catch there, the tackle stopped Jones short of the goal line.

Vaughn McClure ESPN Staff Writer

Falcons season comes to an end with a 15-10 loss to the Eagles in the divisional playoff game. Offense just couldn't get it done in the red zone when it counted the most. The defense showed remarkable improvement.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Dan Quinn's decision to go for it on fourth-and-6 was probably correct, according to our model. Punting would have cost the Falcons 1.9% in win probability.

Brian Burke ESPN Analytics

Our Win Probability model favored going for it by +1.9% on the 4th and 6. Not much advantage going for it because the Falcons could still get the ball back with a stop at 2:17 using their 2 timeouts.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Big fourth down throw from Matt Ryan to Julio Jones. Move the sticks. And it started at the line of scrimmage with Jones. A quick shake and a swim move to separate from the coverage.
