Pittsburgh pulls out victory after struggling against East Tennessee State
DAYTON, Ohio -- Pittsburgh intends to make history in this year's NCAA tournament. The Panthers almost did in their first game.Playing as a No. 1 seed for the first time but hardly looking the part, Pitt overcame a sloppy performance and a frightful 40 minutes from No. 16 seed East Tennessee State to advance with a 72-62 win on Friday in the East Regional.
• Pittsburgh advanced to the second round for the fourth straight season as the Panthers avoided being upset by ETSU.
• Pittsburgh was once again led by Big East co-player of the year DeJuan Blair. Blair recorded his 18th double-double of the season with 27 points and 16 rebounds.
• The game saw six lead changes and the largest deficit for the Panthers was just 2 points (18:13 in 1st half).
• No. 1 seeds are 99-0 all-time against the No. 16 seed in the tournament.

Bennett: Not exactly pretty
