Clearing out the Kenneth Faried and Darrell Arthur contract saves Denver a combined $43M in salary and projected luxury tax. The Nuggets now have 14 players on guaranteed contracts and are now $8.7M below the luxury tax. Denver this offseason has saved a projected $90M in salary and tax by trading Faried, Arthur and recently Wilson Chandler in a previous trade to Philadelphia.

The Isaiah Thomas contract in Denver now brings the roster to 16 guaranteed contracts. The Nuggets with the $1.5M Thomas cap hit (total $2M salary based on 7 years of service) now have a team payroll of $136.3M and a current tax bill of $22.5M. Denver does have flexibility with the expiring contracts of Kenneth Faried ($13.7M) and Darrell Arthur ($7.5M). The Nuggets still have $3.3M remaining of the tax midlevel exception.

Isaiah Thomas agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal with the Nuggets, sources said, as he joins his fourth team in a year. It's high-reward, low-risk for Denver and a chance for Thomas to re-establish himself.

Denver saved millions in luxury tax by trading the expiring contract of Wilson Chandler to Philadelphia.

Trading Wilson Chandler to Philadelphia will save Denver $50M in combined salary and luxury tax. The Nuggets tax bill now drops from $51.3M to $14.3M. The $12.8M Chandler contract can be traded immediately without any restrictions because Philadelphia acquired him with room.

The Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Toronto Raptors and Utah Jazz will play games against Australian NBL teams this preseason. The Adelaide 36ers, Melbourne United, New Zealand Breakers, Perth Wildcats and Sydney Kings will play a total of seven games against NBA teams from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5. "My history in Australia and my history especially with Australian basketball has helped shape my current status as an NBA head coach," said Sixers coach Brett Brown, who currently coaches Australian product Ben Simmons and used to coach the Australian men's national team. "The basketball scene is extremely well organized, extremely well coached, and the growth of the game is not to be disputed. The wonderful Australian culture only adds to the rise of the game. Australia has been good to me and I am thrilled to be able to give back in some small way"

Sources: Nuggets decline Jokic option, eye max

The Nuggets will decline the $1.5 team option on Nikola Jokic, with an eye on signing the 23-year-old franchise star to a five-year, approximately $147 million maximum contract in July, league sources told ESPN.

Bobby Marks ESPN

The Nuggets will financially get penalized a year early for finding a potential All-Star in Nikola Jokic in the second round. Quirk in the CBA doesn't protect teams that have a second round pick on 4 year contract like they do for a player on a first-round rookie scale.

Denver forward Wilson Chandler will exercise $12.8 million player option for the 2018-19 season, league sources tell ESPN.
