Giants take the lead on Arroyo's solo shot (0:40)

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

This surely a short-term membership for San Diego's Ryan Schimpf, but when he homered tonight, he joined a list that includes Babe Ruth and Carlos Zambrano. According to baseball-reference.com, that trio and five others are the only ones to hit six homers in a season with zero doubles and zero triples. Six of Schimpf's nine hits so far have been homers. It's only April of course but, still, it'll be a little sad when Schimpf hits his first two- or three-bagger. He's in such rarefied company.

ESPN Stats and Information

Ryan Schimpf continues to mash on the road. The Padres infielder launched a 423-foot long ball to center in the fifth inning against the Giants on Friday.

Bethancourt to focus on pitching in Triple-A

Christian Bethancourt has told the Padres he will work toward developing as a pitcher after the veteran MLB catcher was sent down to Triple-A after a failed hybrid attempt with San Diego.

Corey Seager's solo shot off Johnny Cueto takes the crown for Wednesday's longest home run. Scott Schebler's 442-foot blast was part of a two-homer day, giving him 7 for the year, good for third in the NL. Ryan Schimpf rounds out the list with his clutch long ball against the Diamondbacks.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The Fernando Rodney Experience has never been an easy ride for those without strong stomachs, but Diamondbacks fans may not have to suffer through many more after the Padres scored five runs off him in the ninth, including Ryan Schimpf's go-ahead three-run homer. With an 11.00 ERA, Rodney should be replaced as closer.
