Arrieta has rebuilt his value with his dominant second half, but it's still anyone's guess if the 31-year-old will get a monster deal or something closer to the $90 million to $100 million range

Joe Maddon returns to Tampa this week for the first time since being the only Rays manager to take the team to the World Series.

Willson Contreras had his suspension reduced to one game and will serve it on Sunday which works out well for the Cubs. There was a good chance he wasn't going to start against righty Lance Lynn anyway so Contreras will now be available for the Cubs entire upcoming 10 game road trip.

All systems are go with Jake Arrieta (hamstring) who threw 42 pitches in a bullpen session on Saturday. The Cubs will decide what's next on Sunday, making sure he's ok when he comes to the field before the game.

The Cubs beat the Cardinals 4-1 in what is turning into a signature series for the home team. This time they did it with pitching as Kyle Hendricks went 7.2 giving up just one run, a home run to his final batter, Matt Carpenter. Hendricks was fantastic. Meanwhile, the offense pecked away at Michael Wacha as Albert Almora Jr continued a hot stretch with three hits and 2 RBI. He has 10 runs driven in this week without even starting every game. The icing was the return of Addison Russell who homered as a pinch hitter in the 8th inning. Wade Davis is a perfect 30 for 30 in save opportunities as the Cubs magic number is now 12.

Kyle Hendricks picked off his 7th base runner this season when he nabbed Jose Martinez in the fourth inning on Saturday, that's tops in baseball among right handed pitchers.
