With Tyson Ross on the mound, the San Diego Padres have a good chance to maintain the success they've already enjoyed on their homestand.

Hoping to continue his recent dominance at Petco Park, Ross looks to extend his club record with a 14th straight quality start while trying to help hand the Arizona Diamondbacks a seventh straight road defeat Monday.

Ross (12-12, 2.64 ERA) allowed a run in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-1 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday to improve to 4-0 with a 1.05 ERA in his last five starts at Petco. He's yielded eight earned runs, no homers and struck out 47 over 48 1/3 innings while going 4-2 in his last seven at the spacious ballpark.

The right-hander has a 1.96 ERA despite going 6-6 during his run of 13 straight quality starts.

"He's growing into one of those pitchers in all of baseball where other players, others coaches, other managers are talking about Tyson as a guy that is becoming a force in National League pitching," Padres manager Bud Black said.

"That's a good thing because you have to do that over period of time to get that chatter about you."

He's posted a 1.64 ERA in three career home starts versus Arizona (57-79), but has been backed by five total runs of support to leave him with an 0-1 record.

Ross looks to help the Padres (64-71) bounce back after their four-game winning streak ended with a 7-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. Despite that setback, San Diego took two of three from the NL West leaders after doing the same against Central co-leader Milwaukee to open this 10-game homestand.

Though San Diego is 2-4 against the Diamondbacks at home this season, Arizona is trying to avoid losing seven straight on the road for the first time since a 14-game skid in 2010. The Diamondbacks are averaging 1.8 runs in their last six road contests, but scored 3.9 per game during a 4-4 homestand that they began by taking two of three from the Padres last weekend.

Rookie Ender Inciarte, who is 2 for 6 against Ross, had two hits in Sunday's 6-2 win over Colorado and is batting .345 in the last seven games.

Arizona's Trevor Cahill (3-9, 4.98) went 2-0 with a 2.33 ERA over his first four starts in August, then allowed eight runs -- six earned -- and walked three in 3 1/3 innings of a 9-5 loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday.

"It's one game, but it wasn't a very good performance," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson told MLB's official website.

The right-hander, however, might have a good chance to bounce back at Petco, where he's 1-1 with a 1.71 ERA in four starts. He's 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in his last three road starts overall.

Alexi Amarista is 6 for 13 with a home run and double against Cahill, but is 6 for 44 in his career versus Arizona at home.
