Though San Diego's Ian Kennedy has struggled against the Los Angeles Dodgers overall of late, the Southern California native has pitched well at Chavez Ravine in recent years.

He'll hope for another strong outing at Dodger Stadium when he tries to win his third straight start for the Padres on Saturday night.

Though Kennedy (7-9, 3.71 ERA) is 0-3 with a 6.51 in his last five starts versus Los Angeles (52-43), including 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA in two this season, only one of those outings -- in 2013 -- came on the road. The right-hander, who is from Huntington Beach and attended USC, is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in his last three at Dodger Stadium.

Kennedy was 0-3 with a 6.08 ERA in his four starts overall prior to allowing one run in each of the last two. He gave up a homer, three other hits and struck out nine in seven innings of a 6-1 win at Colorado on Monday.

"He looks back to the form I've seen in the past," teammate Chase Headley told MLB's official website.

San Diego starters have a 1.74 ERA while the Padres (41-52) have won seven of the last 12. Jesse Hahn allowed a run in six innings to help San Diego snap a three-game slide with Friday's 6-3 victory.

Carlos Quentin had three RBIs and Alexi Amarista hit a two-run homer for the Padres, who totaled five runs while losing their previous four at Dodger Stadium.

Amarista is 6 for 15 in the last five games against the Dodgers.

After winning 13 of its final 17 in June, Los Angeles is 4-6 in July and has totaled six runs while losing two of three.

Yasiel Puig had one RBI and two of his team's six hits Friday. He's 8 for 24 with five doubles in his last six games, and batting .424 in eight career home contests versus San Diego.

Puig is 3 for 10 with a homer against Kennedy.

Teammate Adrian Gonzalez is 3 for 22 in six games but has seven RBIs during that stretch.

After sitting Friday with a shoulder issue, Los Angeles' Hanley Ramirez could be rested through the All-Star break. The veteran shortstop is 6 for 16 in his last five games.

"When Hanley plays, he's dangerous," manager Don Mattingly said. "Our goal is keep him out there as much as possible."

Teammate Andre Ethier could be back in the lineup after not starting the last two games. He did pinch hit in the eighth and stayed in for the ninth Friday.

It's also uncertain if Carl Crawford will start after he went 0 for 2 while coming off the bench Friday in his first action since going on the disabled list with an ankle injury May 28.

With Josh Beckett on the DL with a hip injury, Paul Maholm (1-4, 5.18) appears set to make his first start since May 14. The left-hander, who has made 14 relief appearances since then, is 1-4 with a 5.50 ERA in seven starts this season.

He is 1-6 with a 4.27 ERA in eight starts against the Padres.

Though Quentin is batting .115 in his last 32 games, he's 3 for 7 with a double versus Maholm.
