Freese will try to build on one of his best offensive performances of the season as the surging Angels try to wrap up this three-game series with another victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.Freese has batted .368 over 10 career games at Kauffman, and that includes going 12 for 28 (.429) with six RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak. The third baseman kept that going with a season-high three hits while adding three RBIs on Saturday in a 6-2 win for Los Angeles, which overcame not just the Royals but also a ran delay of three hours, 58 minutes."It was nice to come out and get some runs after the rain. It was almost like starting a new game so it was nice to get some runs, and nice to get the win," said Freese, who doubled and scored a run in an 8-6 win in the series opener Friday. With no rain in the forecast for the finale, Freese will attempt to continue his surge at the plate. He has a .349 average in 12 road games this month, increasing his season away average 76 points to .248.The Angels (45-34), meanwhile, have won seven of eight overall and six of seven at Kansas City (41-39).Handing the ball to C.J. Wilson (8-6, 3.70 ERA) gives them a good chance to improve on that stretch. Wilson is 4-0 with a 2.59 ERA in six career starts against the Royals. He allowed one run with four walks while hitting two batters in 6 1/3 innings of a 6-1 home victory against Kansas City on May 23.The left-hander, however, is 0-4 with a 5.52 ERA over his last five road starts, but he hasn't received much help. He's been backed by four total runs in that time, a far cry from the 6.11 overall average he has this season -- which is among the majors' highest.Wilson got plenty of support at home Tuesday, when he was backed by seven runs while surrendering six and two homers in five innings of an 8-6 win over Minnesota. He had allowed just as many runs in 20 1/3 innings while going 1-1 over his previous three starts. The Royals have lost seven of nine following a season-high 10-game winning streak.Jeremy Guthrie (5-6, 3.75) will try to begin turning it around, but he's 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA while serving up seven homers over his last four starts against the Angels. He was charged with a 7-0 home loss May 25, 2013, when he surrendered seven runs and two homers in 7 1/3 innings. The right-hander, however, enters this meeting with a 2.25 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 20 innings while winning three straight starts. He was 0-4 with a 3.09 ERA over his five previous trips to the mound, though he was backed by three total runs.Guthrie continued his recent success Monday, cruising through seven scoreless innings before giving up two runs and leaving with two outs in a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers."He did everything he needed to do to be successful: changed speeds, great location, and some really, really nice defense behind him," Royals manager Ned Yost told MLB's official website.Guthrie has held Freese to 1 for 6 with two strikeouts.
C.J. Wilson has a hard-hit average of .135 in plate appearances ending in a fastball, 42 points below the league average among qualified starters. The Royals have a MLB-worst .150 hard-hit average against fastballs this season.
