Scouting Reports

Keith Law on Jon Lester

"He has three above-average pitches: a 92-95 mph fastball, a plus two-plane curveball that he commands extremely well and a sharp cutter that he'll run in on a right-hander's hands or drop over the outside corner."

Game 7 Notes

• Matt Garza fanned nine in 7-plus innings of work. Garza becomes just the fifth pitcher, all time, to strike out nine or more batters in a Game 7 win.

• Erick Aybar's home run (his second of the series) made it 16 for the Rays in the ALCS, further extending their record for most team homers in a postseason series.

• The Rays used five pitchers in the eighth inning. The fifth of which was David Price.

• The 23-year old Price got the save, becoming the third-youngest pitcher to ever save a deciding LCS Game 7. Only Don Gullet (19 years, 272 days; 1970 NLCS) and Byung-Hyun Kim (22 years, 273 days; 2001 NLCS) were younger.

• It was Price's first career save -- he did not have one in the regular season or the postseason before Game 7.

• Price pitched in five regular season games before getting his first postseason save in a series clinching win.

• Dustin Pedroia's solo home run made it the fourth time the visiting team had scored at least a run in the top of the first inning in the series.

Lester was very good, but Garza and the Rays were better. ... Now you better beat Philadelphia.
