After winning atop the Col d'Izoard in the one and only road stage of the La Course race that is being held in tandem with the Tour de France, Annemiek Van Vleuten of the Netherlands struck a balance between being gracious and pushing for a more complete women's event. "I hope it's a good start for more," she said, adding that it's time for the Tour to run a true stage race with something to offer climbers, sprinters and time trial specialists. "I was happy it wasn't just on the Champs-Elysees (in Paris) because that's more of a sprinter's criterium and I don't think it's the best showcase for women's cycling."
