Mississippi State has made the move official: former Penn State O.C. Joe Moorhead will be its next head football coach. A.D. John Cohen made note of his "innovative offensive philosophy" and how it's a "perfect fit for our program and will keep us on a path to competing for championships." But Cohen also added that, "I was also impressed with his detailed defensive plan." A lot of people will be paying attention to who Moorhead hires as his defensive coordinator. Getting assistants with strong recruiting ties to the region will be important considering his lack of time spent coaching in the South.

Weeks before the coaching carousel got going, the two coordinators whom industry insiders believed were likeliest to land Power 5 jobs were Penn State OC Joe Moorhead and Ohio State DC Greg Schiano. Moorhead will head to Mississippi State, while Schiano's next step is unclear after the Tennessee debacle. But both men are highly regarded around the sport.
