Gus Malzahn plays up Jarrett Stidham's athleticism. He played some receiver in high school and has a 4.6 40-yard dash. Also has a 36-inch vertical. "He's a good athlete. He's a lot better athlete than people think. He can run. In our league you have to escape because things are going to break down. Defensive lines are too good."

Gus Malzahn on NFL referees and how they manage hits against former Auburn QB and current Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton: "They need to protect him like they do the rest of the quarterbacks."

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn really likes the QB numbers he has to work with at quarterback. Everyone will talk about former Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham but Malzahn maintains that former starter Sean White is still competing for the starting spot and youngster Malik Willis have caught his eye. "The exciting thing for me is we got depth, and that's been our Achilles heel."
